Washing my hair before a haircut

Should i wash my hair before a haircut?

It’s not necessarily required to wash your hair before getting a haircut. Whether it’s clean or dirty has little impact on the way it will turn out afterwards.

To make your hair damp, you can wet it. This will give it weight and make the cut more precise. You usually have the stylist do this when they are giving you a haircut.

If you’re going to get a haircut with a hair color, do not wash your hair or it won’t take in the color properly since it washes away the natural protection.

You need to wash your hair 2 days before you want to dye it and we’ll get into more detail on that later.

So many people are wrong about what to do with their hair when getting a haircut.

Some people have the idea that cutting a tree branch during a crescent moon will make it grow faster. There’s no truth to this, though.

Hair grows at the same rate each month, so whether during full, crescent or waning moon, that’s on average 1-1.5 centimeters. Cutting hair during these phases won’t impact this.

should i wash my hair before going to the barber?

There are many people who say you should never wash your hair before getting it cut.

When you give your clients a great experience, they’ll come back again. For example, my client Nancy came in the other day to change her look.

The first thing she does after sitting in the chair is to let me know that she washed her hair before coming to the salon because she was a little tight on money this month. This way, she only pays for the haircut.

At one point in time, when I began to wet her hair with a spray bottle, she let me know that her hair was already clean.

I tried to explain that wetting the hair before cutting it would help me with precision.

There might be cases where it would matter to get hair washed before getting a haircut.

Do you want to know what they are?

I will cover the following topics:

To wash or not to wash? That answer will be revealed.

WHY IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO WASH YOUR HAIR BEFORE GETTING A HAIRCUT

There is no truth to the idea that your haircut will be affected by how clean your hair is.

Many of my clients wash their hair before coming to the salon. Others prefer to do it after they get it cut.

It’s important to keep good hygiene practices with your hair, whether you’re getting a haircut or not.

What do I mean by this?

Wash your hair at least every 10 days to keep it healthy. If you’re guilty of not washing it more often, make sure you’ve showered before your appointment.

Your stylist will appreciate the effort and you’ll have a better experience in the salon too.

It is recommended that you do not wash your hair more than 2 days before coming to the salon.

When should you wash your hair before getting a maintenance haircut?

Does your hair feel heavy?

Do you notice that your hair doesn’t have any movement and it’s easy to brush?

If you answered yes, it’s time for a wash. Hair is skin and skin sweats. That sweat on your scalp turns into a greasy layer

A coating of grease on hair can actually be a good thing. It protects the hair from external factors like sun or heat, but is damaging when in excess

Thus, this natural oily layer must be washed off every 48 hours to allow the hair to breathe.

WHY DO SALONS WASH YOUR HAIR?

Cleaning your hair 48 hours in advance of getting it cut means that you’re giving your stylist plenty of time to work with. It’ll come out looking prettier and neater.

Let’s make a footnote if you are the type of person that washes their hair every day.

First, it doesn’t really matter that much if you wash your hair before going to the salon. However, washing your hair every day can remove the greasy layer on the scalp, which is burned when using heat appliances like curling irons and blow dryers.

If you have greasy hair, you can use dry shampoo to keep your hair clean without washing it. The powder blocks those oils & other impurities that would typically make your scalp dirty and your hair look unwashed.

But what if in addition to cutting your hair, you also want to dye it?

I got that answer for you.

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T WASH YOUR HAIR IF YOU ARE GETTING A CUT AND A COLORING JOB ON THE SAME SALON VISIT

I am again calling on your common sense, which sometimes seems to have gone missing. So, let’s tap into your common sense with a game!

1) Lets say you are going to the salon 2) The stylist will do some or all of whichever of the following:

If you accept this mission, please sort out the following actions:

Ok, it’s time to grab a pen and paper. Quick! Number them from 1 to 3 in the order you think your stylist will twirl, then straighten or blow dry your hair.

  • Hair cut
  • Coloring
  • Rinse and wash

You got them in order?

Let’s look at the correct sequence:

  • Coloring
  • Rinse and wash
  • Hair cut

Does the answer give you any clues?

That means you don’t need to wash your hair before cutting and coloring, because the first thing done will be the coloration.

And to cut it, we must rinse out the color first.

But there is even a more important reason why you shouldn’t wash your hair before you cut or color it

It’s important not to wash your hair before coloring it. – With the natural oils that are produced in your scalp, you’ll be able to protect your hair from harsher color chemicals.

Those oils protect your scalp from irritation.

That’s why, after your stylist colors your hair and rinses it, they’ll then wash it and only then cut it.

It might come as a surprise to you, but there are plenty of myths about what you should do with your hair before cutting it. Do you want to know what they are?

You shouldn’t leave me wondering, I want to tell you. I would never want to leave you guessing about my thoughts.

2 MYTHS ABOUT CUTTING YOUR HAIR THAT YOU SHOULDN’T BELIEVE

I’m a self-proclaimed mythology enthusiast to say the least. But myths about gods, heroes and other deities have nothing to do with hair fibers.

Some people believe that cutting their hair will make it grow faster.

Your hair doesn’t grow from the ends, it grows from your scalp. Getting rid of the damaged ends makes it stronger, not longer.

I’ve heard through the years that it’s not good to wash your hair often.

This is not true. You have to wash your hair with shampoo in order to clear the hair of oil and dirt that can buildup in your hair follicles. This allows for your hair pores to breathe

Have you run across any other myths? If so, don’t forget to leave them in the comments.

CONCLUSIONS

Whether you wash your hair before you get a haircut or wait till after, it won’t actually affect the end result.

If you need to cut your hair or color it, I would advise you not to wash it the day of. Ideally, if you don’t have anything big planned tomorrow, wash it on Thursday or Friday.”
